ABSTRACT
Like his predecessors, Bill Clinton did not start with a clean slate when he assumed the presidency in January 1993. Specifically for the discussions in this chapter, he inherited an established policy approach towards the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. In order to provide context for subsequent discussions in the chapter therefore, this section will begin by briefly outlining the nature of Clinton’s presidential inheritance in this area.
