Inordertotakefulladvantageoftheenergy savingpotentialobtainablefromdaylight,itis essentialtoprovidethebuildingwithcontrolsystems capableofadjustingelectriclightoutputtothe availabledaylight.Ifsuchasystemisnotprovided, electriclightswilltendtostayon,ascanbeseenin manyofficebuildings.Frequentlytheartificial lightingsystemisswitchedoninthemorningandoff intheevening,regardlessofavailabledaylight.This isparticularlythecaseinopenplanspaceswhere thereisacentralswitch.InceUularbuildingdesigns theoccupantismoreincontrolofandfeels responsibleforlightswitching,resultinginan improvedlightingperformance.
