ABSTRACT

Designers need tools to estimate the correctness of their choices. In the case of daylight, the concept of "correctness" involves many aspects, as we have seen in the previous chapters. Basically, these aspects can be grouped into two categories: • environmental performance • energy performance. The first group includes all the questions discussed in Chapter 2, concerning the quality of the luminous environment from the point of view of human reactions to it. The second group is concerned with the level of dependence on non-renewable energy of the building design, in a given external environment, to ensure comfortable conditions for its occupants. Both categories are strongly dependent on the architectural characteristics of the project.
