ABSTRACT

Imagine walking through a wood, along a beach, or a street. Consider how these movements could come to mean something. Imagine how they might be interpreted by somebody else walking by. Well, walking down the street during rush hour might connote images of business commuters on their way to work, the corporation, business and capitalism. Walking along a beach might be taken as a sign of leisure, a signal of being on holiday or vacation. It is the kind of image to feature on tourist brochures and guides of destinations such as Spain, the Bahamas, Portugal or Mexico. Alternatively, walking through somewhere like a forest could be interpreted as an escape to nature, a move away from city life or even a way to enjoy a day off work.
