ABSTRACT

Depending on the aspects stressed, the development of CAI materials may be presented as an extremely new and specialized type of instructional design, or it may be seen as one branch of the general instructional design process, which has its special techniques and skills at the detailed design and production level (as has, for example the development of instructional audiovisuals) but is in general terms very similar to the design of any other instructional materials. We shall attempt to show that the latter view is perhaps closer to the truth and, certainly, more useful as a starting point into this relatively new instructional technology.
