ABSTRACT

State induced by inability to achieve one’s goals, master a task or solve a problem. Typified by high arousal, irritability, and general bad temper. Often accompanied by displaced aggression (see also aggression, displacement activity). May occur in almost any life-context from personal relations to assembling a wardrobe from IKEA. Sometimes induced by external facts beyond one’s control such as traffic jams, sometimes internally by what one feels is one’s own inadequacy. Does not have any clear technical Psychological meaning beyond its everyday one, but is widely used.
