ABSTRACT

In recent years, American views toward the Europe-China relationship reflect both increased attention and increasing concern. This derives in part from the fact that the ties between Europe and China – countries with which the United States has deep and long-standing interests – have grown dramatically closer in recent years, and particularly during a period of some trans-Atlantic tension in the earlyto mid-2000s. In addition, increased American interest in Europe-China relations also reflects greater concern in recent years over the possible lifting of the European Union (EU) arms embargo on China.
