ABSTRACT

The central theme of this chapter is that adventure education experiences have a key role to play in widening both personal and professional horizons. The critical activity that is characteristic to each situation is the review, or reflection on experience. As the focus moves more from the personal to the professional, from the adolescent to the manager, the more the review needs to focus on the application of the experience to the content of the professionals’ work. The four cases described in this chapter have been chosen to illustrate this point. They all have widened the horizons of their participants, but the more professionally oriented the group, the more the focus of reflection has been on their particular professional concerns.
