ABSTRACT

Most people living with someone with an eating disorder are terrified about the medical dangers, and the long-and short-term consequences of poor nutrition. It is helpful, in discussion with medical professionals, if you can be specific about what observations worry you. It can also be useful to jot any examples down, with any relevant details such as how often you’ve observed this, when it happened, etc. (At a later stage, you will, it is hoped, also be able to look back and appreciate progress.)

Finding a balance between being mindful of the medical risk that your loved one faces, and not panicking over what may or may not be important from a medical point of view, is often very difficult. This chapter offers basic guidance which may be discussed with an experienced professional on what to look out for, what it means, and when to call for help.
