ABSTRACT

In this chapter there will be an outline of some of the ‘starting blocks’ which have helped to raise the status of support services and ‘starting blocks’ which can be used to aid service development. The factors discussed in the different sections provide the opportunity for collaborative working to support access to the whole curriculum for pupils with diverse needs. Throughout this chapter issues will be highlighted which can be debated by support staff as they aim to provide a service which is effective, efficient and appropriate for the 1990s.
