ABSTRACT

Keen adult readers need no persuasion of the importance of libraries and bookshops in their lives. We all know the pleaure to be found in browsing and selecting from a huge range of books, and the sense of anticipation on arriving home with a stack of books under the arm. This love of books usually develops early in life. In this chapter I would like to suggest ways in which teachers, parents and librarians can work together through libraries and bookshops in schools to help to engender this enthusiasm for reading.
