ABSTRACT

Albert Ellis has always been interested in ef®ciency both in life and in psychotherapy. A distinctive feature of REBT, therefore, is the emphasis that it places on ef®ciency in its practice. In a seminal paper, Ellis (1980c) speci®ed several criteria of psychotherapeutic ef®ciency. None of these criteria on its own de®nes REBT's distinctive contribution. This is de®ned by all seven in concert.
