ABSTRACT

If it were a separate nation, California would be the sixth or seventh largest nation in the world as measured by GDP. Of its more than 35 million citizens, less than 50 per cent are Caucasian of non-Hispanic or Latino background, with a very large ethnic representation from Asian and Hispanic populations. In fact, demographers predict that by the year 2010 the largest group of individuals living in California will have an Hispanic background.
