ABSTRACT

Professional codes are directed at the responsible behaviour of the professional. It is important not only to identify the nature of the codes, but also to determine the relevance and comprehensiveness of the issues tackled in the codes and the effective ethical delivery of the code by the institution’s membership. It is quite possible that there might be a mismatch between the public’s perception of an ethical business or profession and the institution’s view, and it is also important to determine an evaluation for any mismatch in this area. The objectives of this chapter are to do the following:

• Determine the nature of ethical, corporate and professional codes and their scope.
