ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with the interaction of the built, intentionally organised and engineered environment with the natural spontaneously organised environment. In this interaction there is an increasing ethical concern about our ability to conserve and maintain the beauty of the natural world around us because of our lack of control of the impact of the built environment on our natural world. It considers the particular issues that constitute a sustainable built environment.
