ABSTRACT
Demography is the study of the structure and dynamics of human populations. If we possessed all the information we needed on the Roman world, we would be able to trace, among other matters, economic trends, the effects of disease and efforts to counter this, and social changes. Unfortunately, given the lack of reliable information available, things are not so simple.
