ABSTRACT

All GCSE or GNVQ examination courses in food technology must ensure that pupils understand the relationship between their food product development, designing and making activities in the classroom and industrial practices and systems and control. It is at this stage that the food technology lessons at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 culminate in examination courses that have moved away from home economics and the domestic arena of ‘cooking family meals’ to a new emphasis of commercial and industrial practice, first suggested in the document The Proposals for the Secretary for Education for Technology for Ages 5 to 16 (DfE, 1992).
