ABSTRACT

An introduction to current research on organisational culture within the construction industry concluded the last chapter providing a platform from which to move to the material in this chapter and those that follow. Earlier chapters of this book have taken a detailed journey through the origins of organisational research, the concept of organisational culture and organisational effectiveness and the linkage between these concepts, as well as the importance of such linkage. Such a journey is necessary for the reader to be fully prepared to ‘understand’ what now follows in this and in subsequent chapters – a description of research carried out among construction companies involved in one of the largest public housing delivery programmes in the world and an analysis of what the findings of the research mean for the construction industry at large. This chapter is relatively long in order to keep the research elements covered in this book together, but in order to make the text easier on the reader; the chapter is split into three main sections as follows:

• Part I – Research questions • Part II – Research instrument • Part III – Data analysis methodology/administration.
