ABSTRACT

In writing this chapter I am aware of how easy it is to read ourselves into someone else’s story. When people interview me for research purposes and I see a copy of their report or conference paper, sometimes I look in vain to find myself there. On other occasions I can be convinced that they must have interviewed me when I know they have not. However, I am not presenting research as such in this chapter. What I am doing is drawing on some of my experiences, some of my story as a trainer, as well what other trainers have told me over the years. I have taken steps to disguise some of the facts so that people are not recognisable as far as possible. If you do read yourself into this writing then it may well be coincidence or synchronicity and should perhaps illustrate the relevance of the issues I am raising.
