ABSTRACT

Throughout this book we have been promoting the idea that opportunities for classroom play can enable children to explore their imaginative experiences freely. We have shown that where role-play themes are part of classroom experiences children have freedom to try out their knowledge in their own way. In this chapter we turn to how role and dramatic play can gradually become more formalised as drama. We go on to show how there are opportunities for role play and drama within the statutory framework and ways in which drama can be developed in each Key Stage.
