ABSTRACT

In Part III we will pay much more attention to the kinds of problems that affect adults. In particular, we will look more closely at the range of symptoms and conditions that have been linked to childhood sexual abuse. Once again, it is very important to appreciate that the presence of any of these conditions does not automatically prove that the sufferer has been sexually abused. There are many other possible causes for the conditions described here. If sexual abuse has been a part of your history, then it may well have left you with some ongoing problems. However, there may be many other reasons for the dif®- culties you are experiencing and sexual abuse may be only one aspect of this. For this reason, it is always recommended that you think these things through carefully. Then talk it through with your GP or a mental health professional, who will be able to help you by asking the right questions.
