‘What’s that dog thinking, Mrs Bromley?’ Picture books and learning to read

Supporting young children with their development as readers should bean exciting prospect for all those working with children in the early years. Building on the knowledge of reading that they bring with them, sharing well-loved favourite texts, introducing and discussing new authors and titles, and, most of all, watching the children’s excitement grow as the world of the reader opens up to them (see Figure 9.1).
