ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 was concerned with the welfare of hypothetical children insofar as the doctor involved in providing assisted reproduction services has to take into account the interests and well-being of the child which has yet to be conceived. Such children were therefore described as hypothetical persons and were distinguished from embryos and foetuses quite deliberately. This was because for some people human embryos and foetuses are no longer hypothetical human beings but actual human beings.
