ABSTRACT

Logging is an essential prerequisite for the edit. This will usually be carried out by the director or another member of the production team. Ensuring that all shots are logged, together with minimal remarks on the quality and suitability of the take will make editing simpler and more efficient. A simple form will suffice for factual programmes. Drama productions require a slightly more sophisticated approach and the ability to make a record which includes scene and take information. Whatever the genre, shot logging is vital; nothing is more frustrating and wasteful of resources than hunting for an elusive shot while the edit suite (and possibly the editor) is idle.
