ABSTRACT
What motivates adults to engage in lifelong learning? This is a question frequently asked by policy makers and educators. Lifelong learning is considered as the solution to several pressing problems, particularly the need to update the knowledge base of the labour force as globalization forces industry to restructure. It is seen as a route to personal growth and as a way to create active and democratic citizens and a good society. Motivation for learning is thus important.
