ABSTRACT

My main aim in this chapter is to foster a shared understanding of the language, rationale and framework within which SOAR can be used to design or enhance curriculum approaches to integrated development. In conversation with others I have usually assumed we are talking about the same thing when we use familiar terms such as ‘career’, ‘career development learning’, ‘work’ or ‘vocational guidance’ – until I realized with something of a shock that we need to explicitly redefine such terms to reflect the complexity of the context in which individuals now have to choose and proactively manage their work, life, study and leisure activities.
