ABSTRACT
Chapter 3 suggests skills which should be assessed when considering children who may have Special Educational Needs. The first part of this chapter comprises a suggested checklist of activities, with teaching points to help teachers identify clearly areas of particular need. It would be helpful to have an observer taking notes on particular children. Observers could be a headteacher, another class teacher, the SENCO, an ancillary helper or a parent.
