Research demonstrates that CBT can improve body image in those with negative body image (see Cash 2002 and Farrell et al. 2006 for reviews). CBT is more effective than no treatment (Butters and Cash 1987) or a non-speci®c treatment (Rosen et al. 1989). However, most studies are small, have non-clinical populations and short follow-up times, and treatment effects are modest (Rosen 1996).
