Melanie Klein based her interpretive technique on the transference. She consistently linked the here-and-now of the patient/analyst pair, the patient's internal phantasy life, and the external reality of past and present. Rather than rely on suggestion, reassurances, or authority, she stayed with the transference theme within the clinical situation.
