ABSTRACT

As in the previous chapter, this chapter draws mainly on the research carried out at Pear Tree School. The analysis is primarily concerned with a systemic view of multidisciplinary teamwork, and is particularly focused on why systems are often either poor or non-existent and on how to improve the situation. In many cases, people from different disciplines are willing to work together, but what they lack are effective systems to support that work. Lines of communication are underdeveloped or non-existent, time for planning is snatched or non-existent, joint bodies are few or non-existent and shared training is rare or non-existent.
