ABSTRACT
The diplomatic relationship between China and Israel, which has developed
new paradigms of communication exchange for both nations, was formally
established in the spring of 1992. In the same year, I was given the chance to
study at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, and I began my new academic career, changing my focus from the History of Western Phi-
losophy to Jewish Philosophy and Religion. In the past ten years, I have
visited and studied academic institutions in Israel, Britain, and the US sev-
eral times, getting in contact with different members of the Jewish faith.
Through the contact with Jewish people, I have gained a new understanding
of Jewish culture and its national characteristics. Indeed, everyone’s beha-
vior is individually particular, so it is difficult to draw a general conclusion
from the individual behavior of the Jews I contacted. In addition, I am still in the primary stages of doing research on Jewish religion and philosophy,
its past and present, which make it more difficult to get a general opinion.
However, on the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic
relationship between China and Israel, as a Chinese scholar doing research
on Jewish culture, it is still of significance to discuss some ideas that I have
not considered thoroughly enough.
