ABSTRACT
Sustainability, like climate change, has become one of the most recognised scientific concepts by the public. The concept is increasingly being adopted within the planning system to assess the value of developments, and data on the sustainability of a project is increasingly being requested by planning authorities as part of planning application documentation. This chapter considers the use of EIA to promote sustainable development, and the methods available for measuring the sustainability of projects.
