Flight Paths: Challenging Racism in Sunderland and Newcastle

In 2002 Margaret Ferrie of Sunderland LEA was charged with introducing Citizenship into the school curriculum. She enlisted the help of Flabagast Theatre Company who in turn asked me to write and direct a relevant play, one hour in length. ‘We’re good on emotional literacy,’ Margaret said at our first meeting, ‘not so good on racism.’ Out went the cartoon characters originally proposed.
