ABSTRACT

All specialized fields of study must create a terminology and language used to communicate among those engaged in research. These ideas emerge from discussion, debate, and consensus among scholars. New students wanting to enter into study of this field will need to understand these terms if they want to become part of this conversation. The study of international political economy is both an old and a new field; two centuries ago, political economy was a commonly used term, but only in the past forty years have scholars regularly and systematically examined international political economy.1
