ABSTRACT

In this chapter we deal with two types of global influences on nation states. The first influence is the importance of globalisation on the financing, organisation and contents of health policies and the second is how global influences are mediated through international organisations or through policy exchange and learning between countries. There is a wealth of comparative analysis of healthcare reforms (see Chapter 2) in different countries (OECD 1992; OECD 1994; Saltman et al. 1997; Saltman et al. 1998; Freeman 1998; Docteur and Oxley 2003; Lister 2005; Oliver et al. 2005).
