ABSTRACT

Emerging scanning technologies are currently capable of capturing diverse data, such as surface normals, colors, materials and other geometrical and physical properties. Yet, because existing inspection computational methods usually do not take this diverse scanned data into account, they are limited and do not satisfy industry demands. Based upon a recent survey of existing 3D non-contact measurement methods and processes, this paper provides an overview of the state-of-the art in 3D emerging measurement technologies. Moreover, it proposes new approaches and methods for data fusion and digital processing of sampled 3D data.
