ABSTRACT

Competitive pressures are driving more and more outsourcing and off-shoring. And products are becoming increasingly complex. To compete, manufacturers must innovate faster than the competition, and produce higher quality products. Success depends on how well business partners collaborate and react to changes in design and process, regardless of geographic location. By communicating more efficiently, synchronizing revisions and turning faster design cycles, engineers are better able to try new ideas and test new concepts. But it can’t happen without effective CAD interoperability.

This paper looks at the recent status of product data interoperability, and discusses recent technologies and trends in this important area.
