ABSTRACT
In order to respect the con®dentiality of the children and carers we work with, this case study describes a ®ctional child and foster family, who have many of the characteristics of those we see on a regular basis. We gratefully acknowledge all we have learned from the children and foster carers with whom we have worked and who, along with colleagues, have contributed signi®cantly if indirectly to this chapter.
