ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss a case in which aggressive behaviour was the primary presenting problem, but in which anxiety and low mood were also important components of the child's dif®culties (i.e. co-occurring aggression and internalising dif®culties ± see Chapter 2). The importance of developing a detailed formulation, to incorporate both the aggression and the internalising dif®culties, is emphasised. To further complicate matters, aggressive behaviour and anxiety/low mood were evident at home and at school. The assessment and formulation incorporated both settings, in order to ensure that the contextual aspects of the child's dif®culties were fully understood. The emphasis of the chapter is on the development of a formulation ± treatment options are then brie¯y reviewed (Tarrier, 2006).
