The threshold is the next assessable point after induction. When you have reached salary spine point 9 you can apply to ‘cross the threshold’, which increases your salary by £2,000. If you get the typical one annual increment, you will reach it after seven years or so. The length of time depends on what point you start on — whether you are a good honours graduate and if you have other relevant experience. If you are on the Fast-track you will be expected to reach spine point 9 in five years.
