ABSTRACT

In Philosophy Heaven (or is it Hell?) a great debate is raging. Should anyone who

chooses to eat meat be allowed in?

Plutarch (AD 46-120) opens, for the vegetarians:

‘It is not natural for men to eat meat. This is shown first of all by the shape of our

bodies. The human body has no resemblance to that of a carnivorous creature. It

has no hooked beak or sharp talons or pointed teeth, no stout stomach or hot

breath able to convert and dispose of such heavy and fleshy fare . . .
