ABSTRACT
This chapter will provide you with practical advice and tips for working in online learning environments. The practicalities of working in online discussion boards will be the main focus as these are central to the development of e-learning communities and in the learning that follows. The principles of a virtual learning environment remain the same whichever system is used. These principles will be the focus of this chapter, but it will also acknowledge some of the more common systems available to and used within health and social care and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
