ABSTRACT
The introduction of the Primary National Strategy was hoped by many to signal the dawn of a new era for primary education, one that gives due prominence to children and their learning. However, there is still evidence that many schools are hesitant to take risks and are continuing to follow a highly prescriptive curriculum based on the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies and the QCA Schemes of Work.
