ABSTRACT

This chapter will consider the use of Information and Communication Technologies in formative assessment and how ICTs allow for the provision of effective and efficient formative feedback. This chapter also examines methods and techniques for utilising ICTs in order to provide individualised, effective and timely feedback. The chapter illustrates that ICTs are not limited to numeric, mathematical or scientific exercises but can be used across a range of subject domains. In this chapter we will also discuss some of the issues associated with using ICT to provide the platform for formative activities and the potential issues related to changes in practice, workload, reliability of systems and student perceptions of using ICT.
