ABSTRACT

Apart from being an act of communication and a textual operation, translation/interpreting is also the result of the cognitive processing carried out by translators/interpreters. Therefore, one has to take into consideration the mental processes involved in the course of a translation task as well as the capacities translators/interpreters are required to possess in order to do it adequately (translation competence). These issues have been studied in cognitive approaches to translation which have gained renewed impetus over the past few years, leading Muñoz (2007) to advocate in favour of a cognitive translation studies (traductología cognitiva) in line with recent developments in the field of cognitive science.
