ABSTRACT

The aim of producing a book that reflected the dialogues and debates within the field of e-learning, as outlined in Chapters 1 and 2, causes particular problems when producing a closing chapter. It would be wrong to end with neat conclusions, just as it would be wrong to end without any conclusions at all. Instead of trying to produce a single, authoritative vision of the field, then, what we will do here is highlight shared issues and areas of difference. To focus this discussion, we will draw first upon the themes identified in Chapter 1 as a background that shapes work in this area, and then follow this with issues that characterise e-learning research itself.
