ABSTRACT

Following a short summary of relevant literature, this chapter offers a framework of guidelines for designing multimedia packages. These guidelines overlap with those for audiovision in Chapter 7. However, there are many new points and elaborations due to the extra facility of interactivity and of audio being coupled synchronously to the visuals. In particular, these guidelines concentrate on techniques for achieving pedagogic synergy between audio commentary and visual elements. They also include proposals for pedagogically optimum production techniques and interactive features, together with techniques for salvaging narrative coherence. The framework derives from the author’s experience of producing and appraising multimedia packages, mainly at the UK Open University.
