ABSTRACT
Maturana and Varela are perhaps the best-known representatives of a new pair of glasses to explore the world with, namely self-organization or autopoiesis. The concept of autopoiesis has been applied by several people in different domains and in different ways. A little care is nevertheless necessary if we want to apply this concept very literally. As a metaphor, this concept has very strong characteristics.
