ABSTRACT
Marine protected areas (MPAs) are an essential tool for conserving and restoring marine ecosystem health, and in many places are considered to be effective fishery management tools. Consequently, increasing attention is being paid to establishing new MPAs and ensuring that existing ones are effectively managed. This chapter outlines some of the key issues which are being, and will need to be, addressed by those involved in MPA establishment and management.
