ABSTRACT
Earlier chapters in this volume have concluded that political and economic reform are essential for sustained economic development to occur in the greater CCA region. Other chapters have also discussed the many obstacles to political and economic reform within the greater CCA region in order for sustained economic development to occur. The policies of external powers, though, also affect the prospects for political and economic development in the region. Two of the most important of these for the greater CCA region are Russia and Iran.
